PETALING JAYA: Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Ahmad Maslan has accused the opposition of defaming him about a luxury watch that he allegedly owned.
In a tweet, the Pontian MP said he never owned a Rolex Submariner, let alone worn the watch.
“Fitnah! Ini kerja pembangkang! Saya tak ada Rolex Submariner & tak pernah memakainya. Jam saya yg biasa saja”.
(Lies! This is the work of the opposition. I don’t own a Rolex Submariner and never worn it. My watch is an ordinary one).
Sri Sanjeevan, chairman of MyWatch, a crime watchdog, had published a series of photos on his Facebook official page, depicting several politicians and their watches.
The photographs published included that of Ahmad, who was seen wearing a watch believed to be a Rolex Submariner worth around RM30,000 to RM40,000.
Seeing the denial tweet from Ahmad, Sanjeevan tweeted back, urging him to lodge a police report if it was not true.
“Pls lodge a @PDRMasia report so they can investigate. @SPRMMalaysia”, he said while tagging Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in his tweet.
“If he comes forward, then I will go accompany him to lodge police and MACC report as well. Will he come forward?” said Sanjeevan when contacted.
Later Ahmad told The Star Online that the photo showed that he was wearing a Swatch, not Rolex as alleged.
“I wear a Swatch, which only costs me around RM400 to RM500 only. I like it because it is cheap and looks nice.
“I did not wear Rolex in that photo. I never wore Rolex in my entire life,” he said, adding that he also owns a RM600 Orient watch, that was given as a birthday present from his family.
