IPOH: The first major accident of the big balik kampung rush saw two people killed and 36 others suffer a range of injuries when a northbound express bus crashed at the 194.9km mark of the North-South Expressway near the Bukit Merah rest area.

The accident occurred when the bus tried to avoid a tyre that rolled from the opposite lane. The driver lost control and hit the divider at around 5.45pm.
