Six anglers, skipper missing near Pulau Bunting

Six anglers and a skipper were reported missing off Yan. They are believed to have gone out about 13 nautical miles west of Pulau Bunting after taking off from the Kuala Sala jetty on Sunday (Oct 29).

SUNGAI PETANI: A search has begun for six anglers and a skipper who were reported missing off Yan.  

They are believed to have gone out about 13 nautical miles west of Pulau Bunting after taking off from the Kuala Sala jetty on Sunday (Oct 29).  

Kedah Maritime operations deputy director Lt Hairilizhar Norazmi said the seven individuals went out to sea at about 6am and did not return. 

"We have initiated search and rescue effort at 9.43am after receiving a police report lodged over the missing men. Two boats have been deployed," he said at the Kuala Sala jetty here on Monday.

Lt Hairilizhar added that an aircraft has been deployed to assist with the search.

He said that only two of the seven missing men have been identified as their next of kin have lodged reports.

The skipper has been identified as 39-year-old Anuar Arshad and one of the anglers is 57-year-old Mohd Ramli from Taman Selasih, Kulim.
