KUALA LUMPUR: The RM50mil special allocation for Government aided Chinese primary schools nationwide will be given out by this year, said Datuk Chong Sin Woon.
The Deputy Education Minister said the Government has allocated RM4.97mil to 52 SJK(C) schools in Selangor and RM2.23mil to 34 schools in Kuala Lumpur.
"We have kept our promise to distribute the allocation on time for this year," he said during the handing over of cheques for the schools in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur Monday.
There will be another RM20,000 allocation for two schools in Labuan, he added.
Earlier this month, the Government distributed allocations for schools in Negri Sembilan and Johor, he said.
Chong said the schools in other states in the country will receive their allocations before the end of the year.
Asked whether he would support the bringing back of English medium schools, he said this would involve policy change and might require amendment to the Education Act.
"So, it is not something easy to be implemented," he said.
It was reported Sunday (Nov 19) that eight out of 10 Johoreans wanted the return of English-medium government schools and a “one school for all concept”, according to a survey.
The survey published by ISEAS-Yusof Ishak Institute in Singapore titled “Johor Survey 2017: Views on Identity, Education and the Johor Royal Family” revealed that 82% of respondents supported the move to bring back English-medium schools.
