Maria Farida wins defamatory suit


Relieved at last: Maria said her reputation and career as an actress were tainted as a result of the defamatory statements.

KUALA LUMPUR: Maria Farida was awarded RM400,000 in damages by the High Court here in her suit against a cosmetics businesswoman and her daughter for making defamatory statements against the actress last year.

Judicial Commissioner Wan Ah­­mad Farid Wan Salleh instructed Hadijah Mohamed Mokhtar to pay RM300,000 and her eldest daughter Nur Shazleen Anis Mohd Yusoff to pay RM100,000 in damages to the plaintiff.
