KUALA LUMPUR: The power struggle between two factions in MyPPP shows no signs of abating.
Both acting president Datuk Seri Maglin D'Cruz and former president Tan Sri M. Kayveas have declared that they are the rightful party president.
Maglin claimed that 1,250 delegates have appointed him president during the party's 64th annual general meeting (AGM) which was held on Saturday (May 26).
He also claimed that the sacking of Kayveas as president had been accepted unanimously during the AGM, while reiterating that MyPPP is still part of Barisan Nasional.
Datuk Loga Bala Mohan was appointed the senior vice-president and Datuk Dr Sivakumar the party's vice-president.
“The Registrar of Societies told us verbally two days ago to go ahead and hold an AGM. The RoS said it will make a decision after the two AGMs are held,” said Maglin.
The other faction supporting Kayveas will be holding their AGM on Sunday (May 27).
Maglin said that most of the supreme council members appointed are intact.
“About 85% of our supreme council members who had been elected from 2014 are still intact and with us,” he said.
Maglin said that the party will submit the documents based on the AGM to RoS by next week.
On May 20, Maglin maintained that Kayveas was no longer a member of MyPPP as of April 25.
He said he had instructed the party's solicitors to commence action against the alleged wrongful and illegal conduct of Kayveas, referring to the latter's statement that MyPPP had decided to leave Barisan.
On April 30, Kayveas posted on his social media account that he was withdrawing his resignation letter and had declared himself president again.
