Sarawakians protest against land amendment


Fighting for their rights: Native groups protesting the proposed Bill to amend the Sarawak Land Code in Miri.

MIRI: Some 200 people from various native groups staged a protest here over a proposed amendment to the Sarawak Land Code which they claim will erode their customary land rights.

Armed with banners and posters, they walked along the streets in the city and shouted slogans. Among the groups present were the Baram Protection Action Com­mittee, Tanah Hak Bangsa Sarawak, Save Sarawak Rivers and Society for the Rights of Indigenous Peoples of Sarawak.
