Liquor shops play safe as methanol poisoning death toll rises


KUALA LUMPUR: News of the deadly methanol poisoning has at least made it more difficult for consumers to get cheap and possibly illicit alcohol beverages from liquor shops in the Klang Valley, as the death toll continues to rise.

A liquor shop in Kuala Lumpur, tipped to be one of the places for cheap illicit alcohol, now only sells beverages with Royal Malaysian Customs Depart­ment labels, stating the products are tax paid.
