KUALA LUMPUR: Chinese Ambassador to Malaysia Bai Tian says he believes the “minor issues” regarding the reviewing of China-related contracts will be properly dealt with, and a win-win solution will be achieved.
“We have to look at some minor issues. I believe these minor issues will be properly dealt with. The bottom line is that we should try to get mutually agreeable, win-win solution to any problem that may arise,” he told reporters after visiting the “Building a Better Future Together” photo exhibition organised by the embassy on Friday (Sept 28).
He was responding to questions about concerns on Malaysia-China relations, in view of the reviewing of several China-related contracts.
Negotiations on the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project is still on going, after Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s visit to China in August.
The Government is also scrutinising the Forest City project in Johor.
Despite concerns over bilateral relations, Bai said more businessmen will be invited to invest in Malaysia.
With Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s visit to China, he said the leaders from both countries have agreed to work hard and ensure that bilateral ties
continue to flourish.
“China sees Malaysia as an important partner. The friendship is there for years. There is huge potential, vast opportunities in Malaysia. People in China are very much interested to invest in Malaysia. We are going to invite more businessmen to do business here,” he added.
In his earlier speech, Bai said there is big potential and bright prospects in the future between the two countries.
“Malaysia is one of the most important and friendly neighbouring countries of China, and also one of the earliest countries to support and participate in the ‘Belt and Road’ Initiative.
“Since the establishment of diplomatic relations 44 years ago, the friendship and cooperation between China and Malaysia have greatly advanced our respective development process and brought about tangible benefits to our peoples.
“Today, China is striving to achieve the 'two centenary goals', while Malaysia has started the journey of building a ‘new Malaysia’.
"The relations between China and Malaysia have entered a new historical period. We believe there is big potential and bright prospect in the future of bilateral ties and cooperation,” he said.
