To be a ‘Datuk’ or not to be is a choice

FOR a while, many of us found it refreshing to see so many new federal and state leaders with no titles to their names. We felt like these newly-elected representatives were just like most of us in the New Dawn, New Malaysia era. We were looking forward to them to serve the people before self-interest.

But barely five months into their jobs, and some of the newly elected leaders are already eager to receive a Datukship although they haven’t proven themselves.
