PUTRAJAYA: Former spy agency chief Datuk Hasanah Abdul Hamid is expected to face several charges of alleged misappropriation of funds amounting to US$12mil (RM49mil) on Thursday (Oct 25).

Anti-graft authorities confirmed that the former head of the Malaysian External Intelligence Organisation (MEIO) will be facing charges of criminal breach of trust and will be charged at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court in Jalan Duta.

Hasanah was among nine people who had been arrested in connection with the case of misappropriating funds meant for GE14.

She was remanded for six days in August to allow the MACC to investigate into the alleged offence.

Apart from Hasanah and officers from the Prime Minister's Department, a businessman was also held in Kelantan in connection with the case, resulting in the recovery of US$4.07mil (RM16.9mil) from a condominium in Cyberjaya.

MACC deputy chief commissioner (operations) Datuk Seri Azam Baki has said that US$12mil of government funds were allegedly misappropriated.
