KUALA LUMPUR: The appointments of other state and central leadership positions will be finalised after PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim finishes his engagement process with the relevant parties.

PKR secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail (pic) said that Anwar has already started engagement with state leaders in Penang and will continue with other states.

“The party constitution gives him the prerogative to appoint five central leaders, two vice-presidents, a secretary-general, an information chief, a treasurer and 14 state chairmans.

“I have discussed with Anwar before he left for Turkey and he told me that he needs time to do the engagement.

“He has started in Penang and he will continue to do so in other states,” he said to reporters when met at the Parliament lobby on Tuesday (Nov 27).

Saifuddin added that the engagement process will take time as it takes into account the situation of PKR, and the need to maintain the party's balance and stability.

Meanwhile, when asked about the looming Rantau by-election, Saifuddin said they have not made a decision on the matter yet.

“We were supposed to have our political bureau meeting tonight (Nov 27).

"But, Anwar is in Turkey and Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail is in Qatar. Other leaders are also away, so we decided to postpone the meeting,” he said.

On Nov 16, the Special Election Court decided that Umno deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan’s win in the Rantau state constituency during 14th general election was null and void.

The court called for a by-election to be held immediately in the state.

Mohamad won the seat uncontested after PKR candidate Dr S. Streram was prevented from entering the nomination centre on April 28 as he did not have a pass issued by the Election Commission.
