KOTA KINABALU: Kimanis MP Datuk Seri Anifah Aman has brushed aside reports of him forming a new party, saying it was mere speculation.

"I have not thought about it yet," he said when asked about talk of forming a new party.

Anifah - who left Sabah Umno in September - has often said that they were too many parties in Sabah and was keeping his options open.

The former Foreign Minister said he is now taking a wait and see approach as there were many things happening in politics.

"There are just too many people jumping all over," he said in apparent reference to Sabah Umno move and other crossovers in the Peninsular Malaysia.

Anifah also dismissed talk that he was joining PKR and laughed it off.

"I am enjoying my retirement," he said when contacted on Friday (Dec 14).

Earlier, sources claimed that Anifah plans to set up a local Sabah-based party that meets the aspirations of the people of Sabah and Sarawak.

The source added that the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) would be the forefront of the party's struggle.
