KUALA LUMPUR: PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali downplayed internal squabbles within the party, saying that it is time to stop politicking and focus on helping the people.
"Yes, we are strong, united and we will continue to support the current government to continue with their policies," he said.
He was asked to address a recent disagreement between him and party president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
This follows after Anwar unveiled the new PKR central leadership council, which included the appointment of Rafizi Ramli as one of the vice-presidents.
The following day, Azmin wrote an open letter, saying that the appointments did not reflect the “fair and just representation” of the party.
On Jan 7, Anwar posted on Twitter, "Beware the batu api (instigators). And those who seek to advance personal gain at the expense of our country."
In response, Azmin called on all parties to stop politicking.
"People are sick and tired, please.
"The rakyat had made a historic decision on May 9 for the new government to focus on developing the nation, improve the cost of living and reduce the prices of goods.
"They did not vote us in for us to fight in politics. It is time for us to focus on developing the economy," Azmin told reporters at the American Malaysian Chamber of Commerce (Amcham) office-opening ceremony on Tuesday.
Azmin, who is also Economics Minister, said as a Cabinet member, he is responsible to support the leadership of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as the Prime Minister.
"Although there are some parties who are trying to disrupt Dr Mahathir's administration, he is steadfast and firm.
"Along with his Cabinet members, he seeks to restore the country's economy and to ensure a more responsible financial management," Azmin said.
