GEORGE TOWN: Some 2,000 civil servants working in Komtar had initially thought that a fire alarm, which triggered at around 2.45pm, was just a drill before being told otherwise.

Among them was writer Danny Ooi Eng Keat, 58, who was with his colleagues on the 47th floor of the 65-storey building when the incident occurred.
