Tabling of Felda White Paper on Wednesday (April 10) will reveal the truth, says Azmin

Azmin said the setting up of the action council, comprising individuals with the expertise and skills as well as a good reputation in the community, is needed to provide useful input to the government.

SEREMBAN: Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali will table the White Paper on the Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) on Wednesday (April 10) in Parliament. 

“The White Paper will reveal the true situation of Felda and its financial position. 

"Proposals on a sustainable business model and rehabilitation plans will be tabled too,” he said after a ceramah in Rantau town here on Monday (April 8). 

“We have discussed the matter in Cabinet last Friday. The Cabinet has agreed with the proposals. 

"The White Paper will be debated in Parliament so that we can get more suggestions in addition to the ones we have,” he said. 

Azmin added there will be initiatives to strengthen the financial position of Felda to ensure the welfare of settlers.

"Settlers ought to know the true situation of Felda. They ought to know that the previous management was irresponsible. 

"We need independent professionals to conduct a forensic audit,” he said, adding that the business model of Felda has moved away from its initial objectives. 

With modern technology and better way in managing plantations, Azmin said that other private oil palm companies managed to get enormous profits. 

“We will look into the reasons why Felda cannot do the same and find ways to achieve economies of scale to get better returns,” he said. 

The tabling of the White Paper, scheduled on Dec 10, 2018, was postponed during the last meeting in Parliament on the advice of the Attorney General’s Chambers.
