MELAKA: A 55-year-old woman has died reportedly after being stabbed four times by her husband here.

In the 9.30am incident Wednesday (July 3), the husband, a retired army personnel, then attempted to take his own life at their home in Taman Seri Duyong Phase Two.

Melaka Tengah OCPD Asst Comm Afzanizar Ahmad said the stabbing happened following a heated argument between the couple.

"The tiff first began in the kitchen and a sharp object was used allegedly to stab the victim," he said when met at the crime scene.

ACP Afzanizar said the 56-year-old husband sustained serious injuries in his suicide attempt and was being treated at the Melaka Hospital.

He said the couple’s 25-year-old son was in the house when he heard his parents arguing.

Later, he saw his mother lying next to his father in a pool of blood.

“The woman had four stab wounds and police recovered a 23cm knife at the scene,” he said.

ACP Afzanizar said the police also found a hospital card, indicating the suspect had earlier undergone a series of psychiatric treatments.

“The suspect has a criminal record, with theft and drug abuse cases.

“We are probing the incident under Section 302 for murder,” he added.
