IF you want to look beyond an ordinary sedan and get something more exciting, you might want to consider a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV).
Larger and solid, it gives a safer and more reassuring feel. The driver’s seat is also higher, so you can get a better overall view of traffic.
Well, look no further as Honda has unveiled its latest addition to the fold, the Limited Edition Honda CR-V Mugen. The sportier and youthful-looking SUV first made its appearance at the Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show (as concept mode) last year. Only 300 units of the 1.5L TC 2WD variant are available.
If you thought the normal Honda CR-V was attractive, the new CR-V Mugen looks even more striking thanks to its new livery. While its predecessor came with an optional Modulo bodykit, the new CR-V Mugen - which means “without limits” - is the only edition that comes equipped with the Mugen bodykit.
This includes the Mugen emblem, front under spoiler, front grille garnish, side garnish, rear under spoiler and rear upper wing. These unique features make the SUV even more special, clearly distinguishing it from the other models.
“Early this year, we introduced two limited edition models, the Jazz Mugen and BR-V Special Edition. Based on the good market response and encouraging feedback from customers, we introduced the limited edition for one of our bestsellers, the CR-V,” said Honda Malaysia managing director and chief executive officer Toichi Ishiyama in an interview during the launch.
“The CR-V is the perfect model for family-oriented customers who enjoy an active lifestyle and premium urban life. It is also for those who want to enjoy a car for leisure. The enhancements on the special edition models present a fresher look for Honda models to excite the market, and contribute towards maintaining our leadership position in the non-national segment.”
Thanks to Honda's Earth Dreams Technology, the CR-V Mugen offers exceptional performance, with its four-cylinder, 16 valve, 1.5L VTEC turbo engine that gives out power equivalent to a 2.4L model. Using continuously variable transmission (CVT), it is capable of producing 193ps at 5,600 rpm, and 243Nm of torque from 2,000 to 5,000 rpm.
Among some of the special features that come with the CR-V are smart keyless entry with push-button start ignition, auto LED headlights, front fog lights as well as day-time running lights, active cornering lights, and 7” Advanced display Audio compatible with Apple Carplay/Android Auto Connectivity.
In terms of safety, there are six airbags, Hill Start Assist (HSA), Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) with Agile Handle Assist (AHA), and other safety systems. The highest variant of the CR-V also comes with Honda’s advanced technology for safety, which is Honda SENSING.
Apart from its stylish and distinctive exterior, inside the spacious cabin there’s plenty of legroom and a wide headroom too, ensuring passengers enjoy a comfortable ride. The multi-function centre console comes with connectivity ports and digital dashboard display.
The seats come in black leather matched with wood finish accents, and driver gets an 8-way power seat and 4-way lumbar support.
You can also pack a lot into this SUV as boot capacity is at 522 litres, and a roomy 1,084 litres of space with the rear seats down.
The very first CR-V, which stands for Comfortable Runabout Vehicle, was a 2L five-seater compact crossover SUV that debuted in Japan in 1996. In 2003, Honda Malaysia came up with its first locally-assembled CR-V, and as at June 2019, more than 95,000 units have been sold.
Now into its fifth generation, the CR-V continues to head the list in the non-national SUV segment, with 27,000 units sold since its 2017 launch up till last month.
For the CR-V Mugen, there is a choice of either Passion Red Pearl at RM152,900 or the White Orchid Pearl at RM153,300. Prices are on-the-road without insurance, and include five years’ warranty with unlimited mileage as well as up to five times free labour service.
