PETALING JAYA: It is time for the government to set up a Commissioner of Charities (CoC) to put in place good governance for all not-for-profit organisations that rely on gifts and donations, say tax experts.
This is preferable compared to having the Internal Revenue Board (IRB) impose a raft of adhoc conditions on charities that complicate the administrative process of these often underfunded bodies, said the experts in response to the IRB’s new ruling that such organisations must provide details of donors giving RM1,000 or more per year to IRB, down from the previous threshold of RM5,000.
