Carlsberg Malaysia paves the way for F&B businesses to recover after MCO with 20,000 complimentary glasses of beer
KUALA LUMPUR: Ever since the Government issued the movement control order (MCO) to stem the Covid-19 pandemic, many businesses, especially eateries, have seen a slowdown – even cessation in their activities.
Bars, pubs and coffee shops are more susceptible as the patrons who would normally frequent the places to gather and socialise stayed home.
The beer kegs sitting lonely in the empty bars means no revenue for these business owners, who still need to eke out a living during this period.
As a way to excite consumers into going back to their favourite hangouts once the time is right, as well as to help businesses get back on their feet, Carlsberg Malaysia introduced its Adopt a Keg campaign on May 18.
The brewery began the initiative to reward consumers who have purchased Carlsberg products for home consumption by allowing them to redeem free draught beers at their local F&B outlets once the MCO restrictions are lifted.
Adopt a Keg lets beer lovers fill their own virtual beer keg at adoptakeg.carlsberg.com.my when they purchase any Carlsberg Danish Pilsner or Carlsberg Smooth Draught from convenience stores, online retailers, supermarkets or hypermarkets.
Using the QR code reader on the camera app on their smartphones, they can scan their receipts and the barcodes from their purchases when they register or log on at that website.
Once this virtual keg is full, they are then rewarded with two free beers from Carlsberg Malaysia, which they can redeem at participating F&B outlets when they reopen using a QR code.
Carlsberg Malaysia will then reimburse these outlets, which helps them in their operating expenses while building up customer patronage.
“Our customers are pivotal to the growth we’ve achieved over the years and we are proud to introduce initiatives aimed at kick starting their recovery, especially for on-trade customers which have been the most badly affected in this time,” said Carlsberg Malaysia managing director Stefano Clini.
“Banking on the momentum of our beer sales via e-commerce and off-trade consumption during the MCO, Adopt a Keg aims to reward our consumers with free draught beer on us while supporting their local F&B outlets.”
Clini said these F&B outlets have been innovative during the restrictive period by providing food and beer packages and this included bottling draught beer for delivery, and Carlsberg in turn aims to help them regain lost earnings through this initiative.
“We call on beer lovers nationwide to help Malaysian F&B businesses come back stronger after the MCO simply by enjoying Carlsberg Danish Pilsner and Carlsberg Smooth Draught they buy from stores,” he added.
Adopt a Keg redemptions are limited to the first 10,000 consumers, with a total of 20,000 free glasses of Carlsberg beer to be given away.
Consumers can redeem their complimentary beer at participating outlets of their choice from June 1 until Aug 31 or while stocks last.
As an added bonus, Carlsberg Malaysia is offering the chance to adopt a full keg of beer with a special promotion of RM500 for 100 glasses of beer.
The offer is available from June 1 and is limited to the first 1,000 consumers, who can redeem that when participating outlets reopen.
With the virtual keg, customers also have the option of sharing the beer they’ve accumulated with other registered users on the adoptakeg.carlsberg.com.my website.
Carlsberg Malaysia reminds consumers to celebrate responsibly by not drinking and driving and practicing social distancing when enjoying their Adopt a Keg redemptions.
They are reminded that it is a felony to drive under the influence of alcohol and that they should always be in full control of their actions. If not, they should either hitch a ride back from a sober friend, best if he’s a designated driver, or simply call a drive service or a taxi to go home.
This initiative mirrors another Carlsberg Malaysia programme that helps 1,000 small and medium-sized coffee shop operators nationwide stay afloat during these difficult times with subsidy and promotion, at a total worth of RM3.5mil.
Planned in collaboration with the Malaysia Singapore Coffee Shop Proprietors General Association, this initiative enables coffee shop owners to defray their utility bills and contribute to their bottom line up to three months.
Carlsberg is also running a price-off promotion that enables participating coffee shops earn more with every bottle of Carlsberg Smooth Draught sold.
Consumers can enjoy RM1 off any 580ml bottle of Carlsberg Smooth Draught at participating coffee shops from now till July.
Carlsberg will donate an additional 50 sen per bottle sold to operators in hopes of increasing their profit margin for a smoother recovery towards the gradual lifting of the MCO.
To ensure a safer and infection-free schooling environment for more than one million schoolchildren in vernacular schools, Carlsberg Malaysia is donating thermometers and disinfection services to more than 1,500 Tamil and Chinese schools throughout Malaysia under its Safer Schools initiative.
These critical schools have received additional disinfection services just last month in high-risk areas within their premises currently totalling 8.4mil sqft, when school reopens.
