SIBU: The current flooding affecting downstream areas of the Rejang River like Kanowit and Sibu is not due to the regulated discharge of water from the Bakun Hydroelectric Plant (Bakun HEP) as has been speculated, says Sarawak Energy.

It said that the flooding is due to a combination of unseasonal localised heavy rainfall with the king tide.
