RM1.96mil's worth of illegal teak wood from Myanmar seized in Batu Pahat

BATU PAHAT: The Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Department (Maqis) has thwarted an attempt to bring in RM1.96mil worth of illegal teak wood from Myanmar via the Batu Pahat entry point here.

Its director Nur Afifah A. Rahman said the department, along with the Customs Department and Malaysian Timber Industry Board, intercepted a barge carrying 150 metric tons of the wood around 10am on Oct 15.
