THERE has been ample research across the globe on Covid-19 in the wake of the pandemic.
Pharmaceutical companies have been working on vaccines to combat the disease, but such vaccines may not be available for the public at large until next year.
In the meantime, the people are required to take measures such as wearing face masks, frequent sanitising, and social distancing to keep Covid-19 at bay.
Amidst such efforts, Japanese multinational electronics company Panasonic initiated collaboration with Paris-based global contract research organisation Texcell on its nanoe X technology that employs hydroxyl radicals to inhibit the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 which causes Covid-19.
SARS-CoV-2 is linked to the same family of viruses that causes Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) and some types of common cold.
Texcell which specialises in viral testings verified that Panasonic’s nanoe X technology has an inhibitory effect on SARS-CoV-2.
In the test (see illustration below), Texcell exposed a piece of gauze saturated with a SARS-CoV-2 virus solution to a nanoe X generator – from a distance of 15cm in a 45-litre box – for two hours.
The result showed that 99.99% of SARS-CoV-2 activity was inhibited within two hours.
The nanoe X ioniser to generate “nano-sized atomised water particles” is developed by Panasonic Corporation.
It is an electrostatic atomisation technology that collects invisible moisture in the air and applies high voltage to it to produce “hydroxyl radicals contained in water”.
The decisive factor is the existence of hydroxyl radicals inside nanoe X. Hydroxyl radicals are characterised by being strongly oxidative and highly reactive.
“Panasonic has been conducting research on this technology since 1997 to offer quality air and create better lives for our customers, ” said Panasonic Air-Conditioning Malaysia sales department group general manager Stephen Eric Khan, adding that this nanoe technology is Panasonic’s patented ion technology.
“Basically it is an air purification feature developed to offer quality air. The assumption that people have during this pandemic is that the threat to our health is only outside our homes.
“That is not exactly the case, as indoor pollution can be far more dangerous than we think, ” he said.
On the key characterisitics of nanoe X, Khan said: “Nanoe X is water-based, produced in high quantity with 4.8 trillion hydroxyl radicals generated per second, and is very high in concentration.”
He said that nanoe X inhibits five types of pollutants (bacteria and viruses; mould; allergens; pollen; and hazardous substances), deodorises strong odours, and retains moisture in skin and hair.
“It does not only inhibit airborne viruses and bacteria, but also those that
exist in our furniture. Since it is nano-sized (small) it can penetrate deep into items like fabric, our sofas or curtains, ” he highlighted.
Nanoe X keeps your home safe by inhibiting five types of pollutants – bacteria and viruses; mould; allergens; pollen; and hazardous substances.
Panasonic has been promoting its nanoe X technology to retail outlets to keep their indoor air clean.
“With the Covid-19 pandemic raging, people are now wary of the air outside that they inhale.
“We are sharing this technology to let people be aware of its benefits. We want this technology to be available anywhere and everywhere, so that people will feel safe at home and in commercial areas.
“This is part of our campaign for the well-being of our customers in line with Panasonic’s slogan Quality Air For Life, ” said Khan.
Nanoe X technology is only available with Panasonic air-conditioners and generators. Currently, Panasonic has 38 models of nanoe X air-conditioners, and it is expanding its range of products that feature nanoe X technology.
