Ungku Aziz’s lasting legacy


PETALING JAYA: Malaysia lost a distinguished scholar and its only Royal Professor with the passing of Ungku Aziz Ungku Abdul Hamid (pic), who died yesterday at the Prince Court Hospital in Kuala Lumpur. He was 98.

The father of Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB) group chairman and former Bank Negara governor Tan Sri Dr Zeti Aziz, he was also a pioneering figure in research on rural poverty in the 1950s.
