Pandemics change the way we work – the mindset also needs to change to succeed! One million leaders estimated to join Go B.I.G with Digital
WHO would have thought that in 2020, the Covid-19 pandemic that claimed hundreds of thousands of lives around the world would change our lifestyle and daily routine?
Among things that also “changed” are of course the operations of enterprises, companies, organisations and businesses in this country.
In line with this, Digital Productivity Nexus (DPN) under Malaysia Productivity Corporation (MPC) introduced the Go B.I.G with Digital initiative, which aims to raise productivity through digital dan technology adoption towards creating a big and drastic impact in business.
In addition, this initiative aims to foster awareness of the digital technology adoption among leaders in the public and private sectors.
Go B.I.G with Digital is also focused on being a catalyst for productivity growth towards breakthrough (B) results with the strengthening of integrity (I) as well as best practices and be a force of good (G) in increasing productivity growth.
Digital Productivity Nexus (DPN) champion Dato’ Wei Chuan Beng agreed that there were many changes after the pandemic hit, forcing the way of work to be changed towards digital as well as utilising existing technology.
"Through the DPN under the MPC, we agreed to jointly drive the direction this year with Go B.I.G with Digital as we have been placed in the digital era abruptly due to the Covid-19 global pandemic.
"There is a lot of chaos due to the pandemic in line with the ongoing trade war. As a nation, an industry and a community, we must find a solution to this situation.
"Go B.I.G with Digital aims to give us suggestions on how to get out of the situation," he told mStar.
According to Wei, the leadership aspect plays the most important role in Go B.I.G with Digital.
In fact, he said, digital technology is a method that should be used by leaders to get extraordinary results in this modern era.
"How do you want to relate it to leadership? Just look at past history. Whatever changes take place come from the impact and influence of leadership.
"Many are waiting to be followers – it is good. But leaders in every organisation must find a way to succeed, to achieve consistency and integrity.
"That's why leaders need to find a way or method, in this case to use digital technology. If we do not take risks, if we do not co-ordinate all of our people, nothing will happen.
"So, leadership actually plays the most important role in this Go B.I.G with Digital," he said.
He added that the use of digital technology and the ability of society to adapt to change is an important factor and he sees Malaysia is now on the right path in that direction.
He also suggested that universities offer added value courses so that Malaysia can produce new talent that is ready to serve the market in need.
Commenting on the mindset or thought pattern of a leader, Wei thinks it should start with awareness themselves.
"It should start with awareness. In the current status quo, we will be left behind, say from now until the next 10 years.
"If we are not able to lead and move forward, we will be left behind and unable to enjoy greater change," he explained.
To move towards a more excellent Malaysia, The Leadership and Digital Summit 2020: Go B.I.G with Digital was held on Dec 8.
"In this summit, we presented a combination of leaders from the public and private sectors, ” he said.
