THE Indera Mahkota Parliamentary Service Centre together with MYNIC, the agency under the Communications and Multimedia Ministry, and Huawei Technologies (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd have joined hands to help underprivileged students continue their education while the country is still fighting the Covid-19 epidemic.
Huawei Malaysia and MYNIC's corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives involved the donation of 200 Huawei MediaPad tablets to children from selected schools in Indera Mahkota, Pahang.
Communications and Multimedia Minister and Indera Mahkota Member of Parliament Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah officiated at the recent presentation ceremony which was also attended by MYNIC chief executive officer Datuk Hasnul Fadhly Hasan and Huawei Malaysia chief executive officer Michael Yuan.
“During the Covid-19 pandemic, some students were unable to pursue conducive or online learning due to computer or device problems. With the reopening of schools in stages, such contributions are among the ongoing efforts to help students at Indera Mahkota to gain knowledge with quality equipment.
“I hope there will be more cooperation and CSR initiatives like this to ensure that no student is left behind in getting an education, ” said Saifuddin at the launch.
Huawei Malaysia also donated two units of Huawei IdeaHub Smart Screen to SMK Astana and SK Balok Makmur to provide an interactive learning experience.
IdeaHub can be used as a smart whiteboard and teleconferencing tool as well as support flexible online learning and make learning more engaging. It also allows students to engage in a variety of projects and learn digital skills.
In addition, teachers can also use these platforms and technologies to share high-quality learning and training content easily and quickly.
MYNIC will continue to implement a holistic corporate social responsibility programme while helping to build human capital development for the community.
Hasnul hopes the initiative will enable less fortunate people to be a part of technological advancement and bridge the gap between them and the digital world.
“By organising such a programme, MYNIC hopes this will help to improve the welfare and well-being of the community. Various CSR initiatives have been and will be implemented by MYNIC for the community, and the long-term strategy is to raise the socio-economy of the country as a whole," said Hasnul.
The initiative to give tablets to school students is also one of MYNIC's efforts to reach out and educate the community as well as support the Government's efforts towards implementing digital engagement among Malaysians.
It is also in line with MYNIC's flagship programme, PRIME (Digital Economy Dream Realisation Programme) which was introduced at the end of 2020, to encourage early exposure to technology and facilitate adaptation to a digital economy.
The PRIME programme is designed to drive digital adaptation among micro, small and medium entrepreneurs (MSME) and at the same time increase the competitiveness of small businesses in Malaysia.

In addition, 47 schools in Indera Mahkota are in the pioneer School Digital Empowerment Programme. This initiative cultivates digital savviness among students who will be tasked to create a website for their school with ecommerce functions, for purposes such as payment of fees and cooperative subscription.
Besides, MYNIC has also taken the initiative to create an “Offline to Online” programme for schools under the supervision of Ministry of Education (MOE) in Indera Mahkota to:
1. Help develop school websites with EDU.MY - MYNIC will help train and develop the official websites of 47 schools in Indera Mahkota using EDU.MY domain names equipped with e-commerce functionality.
2. Act as a medium of creativity and communication - Enhancing students' creativity in the preparation of digital content (articles, videos, others) as a platform for sharing and channeling information between MOE, schools, parents, PTA and students.
3. Expand the cultivation of digital technology - Schools in Indera Mahkota will be at the forefront of digital technology cultural initiatives and encourage online presence among schools, parents, and students. This will accelerate the adaptation of the digitisation of the education sector in Malaysia.
4. Introduce e-commerce and online payment - This will encourage schools, school cooperatives and students to be involved in the early process of e-commerce as well as make it easier for parents to pay fees or purchase books.
This programme is not only expected to benefit the students and teachers, but also schools and parents of Indera Mahkota.
