How the Agong is appointed

THE Conference of Rulers is a unique institution that chooses the Yang di-Pertuan Agong from among its ranks of nine Malay Rulers.

Although it was officially established in 1948, the Conference had a predecessor in the durbar, where the Rulers and the British administrators would meet during the days of the Federated Malay States.
