Five killed in Sabah boat tragedy

On the look-out: An MMEA officer looking for two missing passengers after a boat capsized in Sabah’s Semporna waters.

KOTA KINABALU: Pump boats filled to overflowing and zipping between the many islands in Semporna are a common sight – but things went horribly wrong when a boat with at least 21 people on board capsized while on its way from Kampung Bakung Bakung to Kampung Tandoan.

Five people – two women and three children – drowned while another two children are missing after the overloaded boat capsized in bad weather off Sabah’s east coast.
