PETALING JAYA: The government should introduce an enabler clause in the existing Environmental Quality Act to allow parties affected by water cuts to claim compensation and ultimately drive polluters to bankruptcy, says the Association of Water and Energy Research Malaysia (Awer).
Its president S. Piarapakaran said the only way to put an end to unexpected water cuts in Selangor would be to introduce harsher penalties against polluters, and an enabler clause would also give it more bite.
