MMEA detain five Indonesians who attempted to sneak in near Tj Tuan

MELAKA: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) has detained five Indonesians who attempted to sneak into the country.

Melaka/Negri Sembilan MMEA director Kapten Iskandar Ishak said the five were detained about 2.6 nautical miles off Tanjung Tuan waters at midnight on Thursday (July 14).

He said enforcement officers sighted the boat after they were alerted by the Malaysian Sea Vessel Tracking System (Swasla) team.

"A high-speed chase ensued before the speedboat with the illegals onboard was intercepted," he said.

Kapten Iskandar said a 31-year-old skipper was detained for questioning while four others who were in the boat, aged between 21 to 46, were found without valid travel documents.

"All of them will be handed over to the Immigration Department.

"The boat is believed to have been used for human trafficking activities," he said.
