Cops kept busy verifying Zalina sightings

SHAH ALAM: Members of the public are all agog over the disappearance of former newsreader Zalina Azman and reports of her sighting continue to garner attention.

Most recently, Zalina was spotted in Sentul.

However, the woman who bears a resemblance to her was confirmed not to be the media personality.

This comes on the heels of a female patron at a cafe and a hotel in Shah Alam thought to be Zalina, but police later confirmed she was a homeless person.

Shah Alam OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim said they received information that a woman who looked like Zalina was found in Jalan Haji Salleh at 6pm on Friday.

“The woman was taken to the National Registration Department at UTC Shah Alam where her fingerprints were checked against the records.

“The fingerprint analysis as well as identification by family members came back negative,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Zalina, whose full name is Zalina Shaharah Azman, 58, had been reported missing since November last year.

A police report was lodged by her son Mikhael Norman, 33, on Nov 29 after he failed to reach her for five days.

It was reported that the police believed that Zalina might have gone missing even earlier, with investigations now focused on looking for the construction workers involved in renovating her house in Shah Alam.

Zalina’s mobile phone was turned off on Nov 20.

It was also reported that police believed Zalina was still in the country after checks with the Immigration Department showed that she had not gone overseas.
