Police to question #Turun protest organisers

KUALA LUMPUR: The organisers of the #Turun demonstration here will be called up by the police for questioning after a group of people turned up to protest in front of a shopping mall here yesterday.

Dang Wangi OCPD ACP Noor Dellhan Yahaya said several individuals connected to the gathering have been identified and they would be called in to have their statements recorded.

“No untoward incidents occurred during the protest,” he said when contacted yesterday.

He said police did not receive any notice from the organisers to hold the protest.

He added that the case would be investigated under Section 9(5) of the Peaceful Assembly Act.

A number of individuals gathered outside the mall here to protest price hikes and demand for ministers to take a pay cut. The group began gathering at around 2pm here, chanting slogans against price hikes. Several Opposition politicians were seen among them.

The group attempted to march toward Dataran Merdeka but was stopped along Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman after the police formed a human barricade.

The organisers told the protesters to disperse at around 3pm.
