PUTRAJAYA: Malaysians should stop speculating on the disappearance of former newscaster Zalina Azman and just focus on finding her, says Senator Datuk Ras Adiba Radzi.

The Bernama chairman said some social media users have attributed her disappearance to mental illness and abduction, among others.

“Everyone has their own story, let’s stop speculating and focus on finding her.

“It’s been crazy because everybody has been messaging me all this while. I’m grateful that Malaysians are very concerned and I plead for the public to take photos and videos if they spot her so we can know the location and confirm if it’s her,” she said on Sunday (July 24).

Ras Adiba said she had met with Zalina’s family members and the family, especially her two sons, were anxious and worried.

“I met with her children and her older brother whom I have known for a long time at Shah Alam police station... and her whole family just like us is looking for her and have performed doa selamat (prayers) and Yassin recitation in hopes that God will ease our (troubles).

“They told me that they are anxious and worried, especially her sons. They too are clueless as to where (to look for) their mother.

“I hope that wherever Zalina is she will contact us, go to the nearest police station or hospital and tell them ‘Hi I’m Zalina Azman and I need help’,” she said, vowing to continue searching for her friend.

Zalina, whose full name is Zalina Shaharah Azman, 58, had been missing for eight months and numerous sightings of her were reported since early this week when her disappearance was highlighted in the media.

However, these were only lookalikes and the real Zalina remains missing.

The first lookalike, a homeless woman, had been spotted by an ehailing driver, in a hotel lobby and also at a Shah Alam cafe.

Another woman who resembles Zalina was spotted in Sentul but it was later confirmed that she was not the missing person.

Ras Adiba is seeking help from ehailing companies to help locate her.

Zalina was reported missing by her son Mikhael Norman, 33, on Nov 29 after he failed to reach her for five days.

It was reported that the police believed she could have gone missing even earlier, with investigations now focused on looking for the construction workers involved in renovating her house in Shah Alam.

Zalina’s mobile phone was turned off on Nov 20.

It was also reported that police believed she was still in the country after checks with the Immigration Department showed that she had not gone overseas.
