Two suspected human traffickers nabbed in raid on Kajang home

SHAH ALAM: Two suspected human traffickers have been arrested following a raid on a house in Taman Setia Impian, Kajang.

Selangor deputy police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Sasikala Devi Subramaniam told a press conference at the police contingent headquarters here that the suspects were arrested on Friday (July 22).

"Both men, a local and a Taiwanese, are believed to be agents for the syndicate. Investigations showed that they would dupe locals into working as call centre operators overseas.

"The house that was raided is (believed to be) where they kept the victims before sending them to other countries.

"We believe that the victims would have been sent to Dubai and Myanmar, based on documents that we seized at the house," she said on Monday (July 25).

A total of 14 Malaysian passports were found, belonging to 10 women and four men.

DCP Sasikala Devi said that if the passports were still with the suspects, it was likely that the victims had yet to leave the country.

She also said that investigations are ongoing to locate them and any other victims who had been sent abroad.

"Investigations showed that the victims were duped by job advertisements online. The agents were believed to have been paid around USG1,000 (RM4,450.40) per victim.

"Both suspects have been remanded until Tuesday (July 26) and we will apply for an extension to assist our investigation," she said.

On missing former newscaster Zalina Azman, DCP Sasikala Devi said the investigation was still ongoing but there were no new developments yet.
