KUALA LUMPUR: The Transport Ministry has urged rail transport company Alstom to deepen their longstanding collaboration with Prasarana Malaysia to heighten repair and maintenance know-how in train operations, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.
The Transport Minister said in a Facebook post Thursday (Sept 8) that he met with Alstom Asia-Pacific president Fang Ling at the ministry.
"Alstom is also in a joint consortium currently with Hartasuma Sdn Bhd to build and deliver 27 new LRT trains for Prasarana, to be fully delivered in December 2024.
"Fang is on a working tour of the region and paid a courtesy visit to the Transport Ministry today," Dr Wee said.
The MCA president said they chatted for about an hour on their projects in Malaysia and the region and what prospects there are for the future.
"I urged Alstom and Prasarana Malaysia to deepen their longstanding collaboration to heighten repair and maintenance know-how to reduce dependency on foreign-supplied parts and service and to focus on strengthening safety in train operations.
"Fang has worked for Alstom since 1995, having served as managing director for China and East Asia previously and leading Alstom’s growth and strategy in major Asia-Pacific markets as a senior vice-president," he said.
Also present were Prasarana Malaysia Bhd president and Group CEO Mohd Azharuddin Mat Sah as well as Hartasuma executive director Tan Sri Ravindran Menon, and Group CEO Datuk Muhammad Isom Azis.
