Six fishermen found alive after boat capsizes off Mukah


SIBU: Six of the 11 fishermen whose fishing boat sank in Mukah waters were found alive on Thursday morning (Sept 22).

According to the Kuching Search and Rescue Coordination Centre (MRSC), six victims were found alive while one was found dead by the search and rescue team that also included the Mukah fishing community at 11.20am.

"Four of the victims were found alive by a local fishing boat while one of the three victims found by the Himajaya 7 search boat was confirmed dead," MRSC said in a statement.

Earlier, two victims who were wearing life jackets were found safe after clinging to a fish barrel by the MT Capella ship, which was heading to Kuching Port at 5.30pm on Wednesday (Sept 21).

The search operation is continuing for the remaining two missing victims.

In the incident, a boat which was boarded by 11 men including a skipper, two crew members and eight fishermen, was reported to have sunk approximately 34 nautical miles northwest of Mukah on Tuesday night (Sept 20).
