In support of Malaysian exporters

The export acceleration mission (EAM) to Manila (Aug 22-26) successfully achieved RM67.05mil worth of export sales.

THE Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) has been actively conducting programmes to promote and support various sectors and targeted markets to expand exports in the interest of helping local businesses grow and build an overseas presence.

Among the programmes are Malaysia’s participation in international trade fairs overseas, export acceleration missions (EAM), business matching as well as the staging of an iconic trade fair in Malaysia – MIHAS.

In continuous efforts to promote high-value sectors, MATRADE has participated in several events in varied sectors such as electrical and electronics (E&E), construction services and building materials, aerospace, halal products and services, including food and beverages, among others.

MATRADE coordinated participation of Malaysian companies at Semicon West 2022, one of the world’s largest trade exhibitions for the semiconductor industry in San Francisco (July 12-14).

The Malaysian pavilion showcased high value products and services from six local companies to position Malaysia as a major hub for sourcing of E&E and semiconductor related products and services. Semiconductor constituted 62% of Malaysia’s total E&E exports with value amounting to RM281.38bil in 2021.

For the construction services and building materials sector, MATRADE coordinated the participation of 15 Malaysian companies in Megabuild 2022 in Jakarta (June 16-19).

The companies promoted project management, engineering and construction services, architectural consultancy, additives for road construction, home fittings, wood-based components, water tanks and, construction machinery and systems. Malaysian companies also highlighted their sustainable and green initiatives.

The event also enabled companies to participate in seminars, industry briefings, product demonstrations and pre-arranged business meetings, which resulted in total sales of US$22.91mil.

The Malaysian aerospace industry were present at the Farnborough International Airshow 2022 (FIA 2022) in the United Kingdom (July 18-22). Their participation attracted a large number of visitors to the Malaysian pavilion, particularly the global aerospace companies, notably Piaggio Aerospace, Leonardo SPA, Honeywell Aerospace, Deutsche Aircraft and Spirit AeroSystems.

The event saw participation by exhibitors from 24 countries, and Malaysia was the only Asean country participant to have a pavilion.

MATRADE’s participation in the event is a testament to the organisation’s continued commitment to highlight the strengths and capabilities of the Malaysian aerospace sector, offering an opportunity for capable and export-ready SMEs to expand their brand presence and establish business partnerships while promoting Malaysia as the aerospace industry hub in South-East Asia.

At Gulfood 2022 in Dubai, MATRADE led the participation of 66 Malaysian companies and five government agencies (Feb 13-17).

Various types of F&B products were promoted including “ready-to-eat” meals, confectioneries, frozen food, snacks, spices, honey, sauce and paste, food ingredients, bakery products, fresh produces, palm oil-based products as well as healthy foods.

Dubbed the world’s largest annual food and beverage trade exhibition, MATRADE’s 18th participation in the show recorded total sales of US$189.7mil.

To ensure extensive business continuity for Malaysian exporters, MATRADE organised its well-participated EAMs. The recent mission to Manila (Aug 22-26) successfully achieved RM67.05mil worth of export sales with more than 140 business meetings between 12 Malaysian companies with potential partners from the Philippines in the areas of food and beverage, healthcare, ICT and biotechnology sectors.

Participants also benefitted through informative seminars, site visits and networking opportunities on Philippines’ import rules and regulations, business requirements, characteristics of the local markets as well as consumer trends.

MATRADE continues to assist and promote Malaysian companies’ products and services by organising online business meetings (eBizMatch). Between January and August 2022, 430 eBizMatch meetings were organised between 389 Malaysian companies and 361 foreign buyers from all over the world.

Apart from organising participation in international trade fairs abroad, MATRADE held the 18th edition of the Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS) 2022 at MITEC in Kuala Lumpur (Sept 7-10).

MIHAS 2022 delivered a record-breaking showcase, generating a total of RM2.36bil in sales, surpassing its original target of RM1.9bil.

The event attracted exhibitors from 33 countries with an overall total of 1,258 booths with large foreign representation from Kuwait, Indonesia, Thailand, South Africa and Palestine, and drew 32,356 visitors, comprising 20,334 physical attendees and 12,022 virtual attendees.
