PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim denies that Pakatan Harapan has rejected cooperating with the Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) in the 15th General Election (GE15).

The Opposition leader, who is also PKR president, said that talks were still ongoing and there has been progress.

He was asked about reports online claiming that Pakatan had rejected Muda.

"Not true. We are in talks and there has been progress," he told reporters briefly after a special PKR central leadership council meeting at the party's headquarters here on Monday (Oct 10) night.

Anwar, who chaired the meeting, said it was held to discuss the readiness of the party's machinery in all states following the dissolution of Parliament earlier the same day.

When asked, PKR communications director Ahmad Fahmi Fadzil, who also attended the meeting, said the Pakatan presidential council, which is expected to meet soon, would finalise its cooperation with Muda "as early as Wednesday (Oct 12)."

When asked about seats and candidacy in PKR, Fahmi said that PKR, other than emphasising retaining the existing seats, was also focusing on seats held by "traitors" of the party and people, referring to former PKR leaders who left the party following the "Sheraton Move".

"Certainly, we are focused on seats held by traitors to PKR and the people.

"In GE14, PKR contested 51 parliamentary seats in the peninsula.

"This time it will be more, as the 52 seats left vacant by Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia would be distributed among PKR, DAP and Parti Amanah Negara in the peninsula.

"The real numbers will be confirmed later as there are still several seats under discussion," he said, adding that the party hopes to finalise the matter soon.

Fahmi also said the Pakatan presidential council would also decide whether the Pakatan convention, which is slated for Oct 29 needs to change its date.

"The situation is very fluid now.

"It will likely need to be brought forward or deferred, depending on the dates to be announced by the Election Commission," he said, referring to the nomination and polling days.
