Ehailing driver charged with murder of four-year-old boy in Johor Baru


JOHOR BARU: An ehailing driver was charged in the Magistrate's Court here on for allegedly murdering a four-year-old boy earlier this month.

Chan Wen Jie, 28, nodded his head after the charge against him was read out in Mandarin before Magistrate R.Salini here on Thursday (Oct 13).

However, no confession was recorded because the murder case is under the jurisdiction of the High Court.

Based on the charge sheet, the accused killed the boy, between 8pm and 8.30pm at a house along Jalan Ria 2 in Taman Skudai Ria here on Oct 2.

He was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code which provides for the death penalty, if convicted.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nur Aina Syakira Muhammad Syafiq Sim prosecuted the case while lawyers Datin Freda Sabapathy and K. Veeranesh Babu represented the accused.

No bail was offered and Salini set Nov 17 for the re-mention of the case pending chemical and autopsy reports.

Meanwhile in the same court, an Indonesian female national, who was also arrested in the case, pleaded guilty for entering the country without having any valid documents.

Yuliana, 40, was charged under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, which carries a fine not more than RM10,000 or five years in jail or both upon conviction.

She committed the offence at the same location at 10.15am on Oct 3.

Salini then sentenced her, who was not represented, to six months in jail starting from the date of her arrest.
