No pain no gain: Hundreds workout for prizes at Health Ministry's Langkah Sihat programme

KUALA LUMPUR: Around 1,000 people exercised for prizes in the Health Ministry's Langkah Sihat programme at Batu Caves, Selangor this morning (Oct 16).

Participants from various walks of life and ages took part in various exercise-centric activities such as a flag-off race up the world-famous 272-step Batu Cave staircase.

There was also the Cycling for Health competition where participants cycled on modified exercise bikes connected to juice blenders to see who could blend the most amount of juice in five minutes.

Participants who proved their mettle took home various prizes including expensive cooking appliances and hampers.

The program was launched by Health secretary-general Datuk Harjeet Singh Hardev Singh who said that the event was the first of many planned as part of the government's Bulan Malaysia Sihat Sejahtera (BMSS) initiative for this October.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob had launched the BMSS initiative through social media earlier this month on Oct 8 as a part of his overall Agenda Nasional Malaysia Sihat (ANMS) agenda to cultivate and promote a healthy lifestyle among Keluarga Malaysia.

The agenda was initially launched as a way to help Malaysians prepare to face and cope with the start of the transition to the endemic phase of Covid-19, on Nov 11 last year.

Those interested in participating in October’s health events can download the BMSS activity calendar from the government website www.bmss.my.
