Ex-IGP set to take on Tok Mat in Rembau

SEREMBAN: Umno deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, who is going for the Rembau parliamentary seat, could be up against a really big gun.

Former inspector-general of police Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador looks set to be a candidate there.

Hamid is among potentials being lined up by Gerakan Tanah Air (GTA), which will contest all eight parliamentary seats in Negri Sembilan.

The former top cop is a local boy in Rembau, a Barisan Nasional stronghold which was held by Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin.

Khairy is being moved elsewhere for GE15.

State GTA chief Zamani Ibrahim said the coalition had shortlisted 20 potential candidates.

Former National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (Finas) chief executive officer Ahmad Idham Ahmad Nadzri is among the 20 and likely to be fielded in Port Dickson.

“We will be able to choose from a list of names that I must say are credible.

“All parties and non-governmental organisations under GTA have already submitted names and we will vet them before deciding,” he said yesterday.

GTA consists of four political parties, namely Parti Pejuang Tanah Air, Parti Bumiputera Perkasa Malaysia (Putra), the National Indian Muslim Alliance Party (Iman) and Parti Barisan Jemaah Islamiah Se-Malaysia (Berjasa).

It was set up by Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad in August, and also includes non-governmental organisations, academicians and individuals.

The coalition intends to contest over 120 seats in all states, except Kelantan and Terengganu, under the Pejuang banner.
