Muar Umno youth lodges police report against Syed Saddiq, contemplating legal action

PETALING JAYA: A police report has been lodged against Muda president Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman for alleging that Muar Umno youth members disrupted his ceramah on Sunday (Oct 16).

Muar Umno Youth chief Mohd Helmy Abd Latif said claims that its youth members provoked and disrupted the incumbent Muar MP's ceramah are baseless.

“These references were made through speeches and other Twitter posts. As the Muar Umno youth chief, I emphasise that we (Umno youth) reject such provocative tactics. It is not something that we practice,” he said in a Facebook post on Tuesday (Oct 18).

He added that the Muar Umno youth wing was also involved in party meetings, and the launch of its election machinery on the day of the incident.

“Logically, we won’t spend time doing something that does not benefit us,” he said.

Apart from Syed Saddiq, Mohd Helmy said the police report was also lodged against several Muda leaders

“I have also had discussions with my lawyer to file a suit against those who accused us (Muar Umno Youth) of these actions,” he said.

On Sunday (Oct 16), it was reported that a group of rowdy youths attempted to disrupt Syed Saddiq's speech during a ceramah in Muar.

The group, clad in black and riding motorcycles, started causing trouble in the middle of the speech.

"They were already lingering in the area from the beginning of the ceremah but only started shouting 'liar' during Syed Saddiq's speech.

"The group also started causing further ruckus by trying to force their way into the ceramah tent," Muda vice-president Mutalib Uthman told Sinar Harian.

However, the group was stopped by policemen and Muda supporters.
