Polls season: A voter casts her vote in Johor. How GE15 will affect the immediate future of the country will hinge on several possibilities.
PETALING JAYA: Some 6.2 million Malaysians will be able to vote in a general election for the first time on Nov 19.
With the voting age lowered to 18 and the implementation of automatic voter registration (AVR), the total number of eligible voters in the 15th General Election (GE15) will be least 21.1 million, a 42% increase from the 14.9 million in GE14 in 2018.
In August, the Dewan Rakyat was told that there were 1,141,749 youths aged between 18 and 20 who are eligible to vote as at June 16 this year.
For these young voters, many questions about voting may come to mind – from the attire they can wear to their polling station and whether TikTok livestreaming is allowed.
