GE15: Opposition harping on flood issue to influence people, says Onn Hafiz

PONTIAN: The Opposition has been making use of the flood issue as a way to influence the people in making their decision for the upcoming general election, says Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi.

The Johor Mentri Besar said that he was puzzled as to why the matter was only being brought up by the Opposition during election time.

"Do flood problems only come up during elections? Floods occur every year, not just here in Tanjung Piai, but also in other areas such as Sri Gading and Gelang Patah.

"When I go down to these areas, MPs from the other side are nowhere to be found. They disappeared. They failed to fulfil their duties to help the people," he said.

He said this in his speech during a meet and greet session with the people at SMK Sri Kukup here.

Onn Hafiz, who is also Johor Barisan Nasional election operations director, added that Parliament had to be dissolved to ensure the country is prepared to face a global financial crisis that is expected to happen next year.

"The world economy is expected to face a financial crisis and inflation next year. How are we going to face these crises if we do not have a stable government?

"That is why the Federal Government had to dissolve the Parliament so that we will have a more stable government and better equipped to handle the crises," he said.
