Political leaders extend Deepavali greetings to all Hindus


PETALING JAYA: Despite the election fever, politicians on both sides of the political divide took time to extend their greetings to Malaysians celebrating Deepavali.

Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia supreme council member Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali wished a Happy Deepavali to all Hindus celebrating it along with a hopeful message of unity and respect among all Malaysians.

“Let us renew our determination to celebrate the harmony of a supportive society and foster a superior spirit of goodwill and understanding based on a culture of respect. Deepavali Nal Valthukkal,” tweeted the former international trade and industry minister.

Selangor PKR chief Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari also wished a Happy Deepavali to all Hindus celebrating it, adding that he was looking forward to the celebrations.

“May the Deepavali festival this time be celebrated joyfully and full of meaning, bringing light that illuminates the entire State of Selangor,” the Selangor Mentri Besar said on his official Twitter account on Sunday (Oct 23).

Tambun Barisan Nasional Youth chief Faridzul Azlan Abd Shani also extended his wishes to all those celebrating Deepavali, while noting the symbolism of the important Hindu festival.

“The greatest strength is patience and victory over evil and ugliness. May this Diwali, free us from darkness and illuminate us with light. Happy Deepavali to all who celebrate it. Happy Deepavali. Deepavali Nal Valthukal,” tweeted the Umno Youth exco member.

Deepavali falls on Monday (Oct 24).
