Apply concepts of Deepavali, says Sabah Indian Chamber of Commerce president

KOTA KINABALU: Apply the concept of Deepavali - where good topples evil, light overcomes darkness - in our lives and in governance, says Sabah Indian Chamber of Commerce president Datuk V. Jothi.

He said Deepavali, according to the Hindus, is a celebration of victory over evil and added that it means goodness in governance if put in the context of nation building.

Jothi added that it should also be applied in one’s daily lives, especially in muti-racial Malaysia.

He said that with good governance, prosperity, peace and harmony can be achieved for all Malaysians regardless of race and religion.

“Only unity and togetherness can help foster prosperity and harmony among the people in this country,” he said this during his speech at the Deepavali celebration luncheon here on Monday (Oct 24).

He also called on everyone to instill a deep sense of patriotism, tolerance, and mutual respect amongst themselves to create a united and prosperous nation.

The event organised together by the State Government and the Sabah Indian Chamber of Commerce was attended by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor among other dignitaries and invited guests.

Earlier in the event, a donation of RM3,000 each was presented to the Sabah Society for the Blind and the Papar Orphanage Welfare Home as well.

Guests were kept entertained with Indian songs and modern Indian dances among other programmes during the luncheon.
