Cops net ganja, boat and two suspects in Penang waters

GEORGE TOWN: Penang police have arrested two local men and seized marijuana as well as a boat worth a total of RM1.52mil in waters off Tanjung Bungah here.

George Town OCPD Asst Comm Soffian Santong said the arrests and seizure were made during a crackdown by a Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department team and Batu Maung Marine Police in the area in the early hours of Oct 22.

He pointed out that according to police investigations, the drug originated from a neighbouring country and the suspects brought the drug into Malaysia via waterways.

The suspects are believed to have been active since July.

The case will be investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.
