GE15: EC urged to set up voting centre in High Commission of Malaysia in Singapore

JOHOR BARU: The Election Commission (EC) should set up a voting centre at the High Commission of Malaysia in Singapore to make it easier for those who want to vote in the upcoming polls, says Johor Pakatan Harapan.

They said that they support the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah’s call for Malaysians residing in Singapore to fulfil their responsibilities by voting in the 15th General Election (GE15) on Nov 19.

"Currently, there are close to 200,000 voters living or working in Singapore. The EC should take immediate measure to make it easier for voters in the island republic to cast their votes.

"Johor Pakatan urges the EC to open up a voting centre at the High Commission of Malaysia in Singapore's office to make it easier for them to vote for GE15," they said in a statement here on Sunday (Oct 30).

The joint statement was signed by Johor Pakatan chairman Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub and his deputies Aminolhuda Hassan, Syed Ibrahim Noh and Liew Chin Tong.

They added that the police and Immigration Department should ensure that there are enough manpower at the land crossings between Johor and Singapore during the election.

"The EC should also invite all political parties to discuss the election process of GE15 as soon as possible. Any delays in doing so will affect the smoothness and transparency of the election process," they said.
