GE15: Four-way tussle for Labuan will split Malay vote, says analyst

KOTA KINABALU: The four-cornered fight expected in the Labuan parliamentary seat will split the Malay vote in the Federal Territory, says a political analyst.

Dr Amirudin Abas said said the four likely 15th General Election (GE15) candidates are incumbent Datuk Rozman Isli of Parti Warisan, Labuan Umno division chief Senator Datuk Bashir Alias, Labuan Bersatu division chief Datuk Suhaili Abd Rahman dan Amanah division chief Dr Ramli Tahir.

He said there could be an independent candidate as well, but this has yet to be confirmed.

“But with the four candidates mentioned above – Rozman, Bashir, Suhaili and Ramli – there will be split votes among the Malays,” he said.

Suhaili’s nomination was confirmed by Labuan PAS, which stated that it would give full support to the Perikatan Nasional candidate.

Ramli’s candidacy was made known in the Pakatan Harapan national list of candidates recently.

All four are expected to receive their respective nomination confirmation letters this week.

Rozman, Bashir and Suhaili are former Umno members.
