After BN snub, Shahidan says plan to contest Arau under another party

PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim (pic) says he still wants to run for the Arau parliamentary seat in the 15th General Election (GE15) despite having to use another party's “ticket".

Shahidan, who is the Arau Umno division chief, said he had received many offers from other parties but had not yet finalised which political party he would represent, reported Sinar Harian.

"I received many applications, all the parties are there.

“Warisan is there, Perikatan Nasional is there, because Barisan Nasional had suddenly rejected a winnable candidate. I am a candidate who can win, so I will compete.

“On which ticket is not an important question. Most importantly, I asked the branches which ticket they would compete on.

“Basically they choose a party that moves towards Muafakat Nasional," he said when met by reporters at the Kubang Gajah Service Center in Arau, Perlis on Tuesday (Nov 2).

The announcement of Barisan candidates on Tuesday night saw Shahidan dropped as a candidate for the Arau parliamentary seat and replaced by Datuk Rozabil Abdul Rahman.

According to Shahidan, he has not yet held any discussions with the parties, but the parties were aware of what happened to him.

In the meantime, he insisted that he would not quit as an Umno member even if he were to contest on another party's ticket in GE15 but was ready to be fired for his actions.
